Wow, it was another successful year in film for Disney in terms of box office hits and money. With Finding Dory winning “Favourite Film” at the People’s choice awards this week, it’s fair to say Disney once again is on form.
This year we have A LOT to look forward to, and three films in particular I cannot wait to see. I wonder if you can guess which three they are? But first, let’s take a look at the exciting films Disney will be bringing to our cinema screens in 2017…
Beauty and the Beast – 17th March
Yeah, we have to wait till March for the first Disney movie of the year, BUT, it’s probably the most anticipated movie of Disney’s since Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You’ve seen the trailers, you know the cast, and you are PRAYING that you are going to love the live-action version as much as the original animated feature film. So far, we think it’s looking good, and we are still hopeful, especially with the most recent clip of all, which features Emma Watson singing! I was very surprised and happy she made it her own.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 – 28th April
In 3 months time, we are finally going to hear that new “Awesome Mix” and make it our new soundtrack. I am not worried about this sequel. It has all the previous cast, as well as the same writer/director and the trailer was AMAZING! I don’t know whether to take it as a good sign that the film is released the same day my baby is due… hopefully he’ll be late like Jacob was though.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – 26th May
I am really hoping this is going to be Johnny Depp’s come back. Jack Sparrow is a legend, and could have only been played by one man, Johnny Depp. Such an iconic role and it’s one of his best acting performances. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes in this 5th instalment and yet, I think this should be the last one, don’t you?
Spider-Man: Homecoming – 7th July
The second Marvel movie of 2017, but it’s Disney’s first Spider-Man film. Recurring his role from Captain America, Tom Holland is the new Spider-Man. He was a big surprise to fans in Civil War, adding humour as well as action. He did not disappoint us. Featuring Iron Man and Happy, Spider-Man: Homecoming looks to be a hit with the fans, and an addition to the current Marvel Universe.
Cars 3 – 14th July
So for some reason, despite Cars 2 being the least successful out of all the Pixar films, they have decided to make a third. I know Cars is very meaningful to John Lassater, and I am fully aware that the merchandise is one of the best selling. But, do we really need to see another film featuring Lightning McQueen? You never know, it could be better than the first two… we’ll see.
Thor: Ragnarok – 27th October
Bye bye summer, and “Hello” to the God of Thunder. I am pretty confident that this film is going to be the best out of the three Thor movies. I much preferred Dark World and Marvel’s movies just keep getting better. Like Captain America: Civil War, the Ragnarok story is known among fans, which has made it more exciting and anticipating. We know we are going to see The Hulk, and Doctor Strange and there’s going to be a big connection between this film and The Avengers: Infinity War. It’s the last Marvel movie we will see this year, but they may have saved the best for last.
Coco – 8th December
This looks as though this is going to be another non-traditional animated story. Pixar is known for it’s morals, and serious topics behind their colourful films. This film is based on the Mexican holiday “Dia de los Muertos” which means “Day of the Dead”. The main character is a 12-year-old boy, named Miguel, who sets off a chain of events, which ultimately leads to a family reunion. This could be another surprise hit for Pixar, like Inside Out, and Wall-E before that.
Star Wars: Episode VIII – 15th December (but could change)
We will end 2017 with the next episode in the Skywalker Saga. So far we know all of the cast from episode 7, except Harrison Ford, is returning. And we know the story is going to focus on Rey’s training with Jedi Master Skywalker. Carrie Fisher will be appearing as Leia, despite her sudden death a couple of weeks ago. We have yet to discover how her character’s part in the saga will end in this episode, as Disney has confirmed they will not be digitally creating her for episode 9. So this will be the last movie we see Carrie Fisher, and her iconic character, heroine, Princess Leia.
OH MY GOD it’s so exciting! Did you guess which three films are the ones I’m most excited about?
Obviously, Beauty and the Beast, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Star Wars Episode 8!
So which ones are you definitely going to go see in the cinema? Let me know, leave a comment or tweet me, thank you.
P.S. All release dates are based on IMDB and may change.
